Bill Number:  Senate Bill 421

Description: Drastically limits punitive damages in civil lawsuits in instances of the most egregious corporate conduct -- fraud, abuse of vulnerable citizens like children and the elderly, and intentionally endangering workers. Such punitive damages are not meant to compensate a victim but rather to punish and deter a defendant, such as a corporation worth billions, from actions such as abusing nursing home patients and recklessly endangering workers in the name of profit.
